CH.8 - WE ARE WITH YOU

The Arcadian sun had already illuminated the entire planet as Corrin zoomed into its atmosphere and landed in front of his home.

The weight of having gone completely against his Father dropped him to his knees as the sounds of Arcadian birds flew above him.

The pressure he felt all those years ago as a pawn for his Father’s vision rushed into his mind filling him with fear, anxiety, and doubt. He could not bring himself to realize what he had done.

From their balcony, Evrii saw Corrin on his knees in distress and immediately ran to him. Lynn and Kale peered from the door as their mother picked up their battered father and took him inside.

“Kale,” Evrii said anxiously but sternly. “Take your sister to your room and don’t come out until I say so!”

Kale could see the seriousness in his mother’s eyes. He looked down at his father who looked like he had stared into the eyes of death, and took his little sister away.

Evrii scrambled to get rags to clean away the ash and residue on Corrin. He was unresponsive to Evrii’s pleas to tell her what had happened.

Everything around Corrin was a blur and moving in slow motion. As wards rushed in and out to help Evrii take off Corrin's burnt clothes, the magnitude of Corrin's battling emotions knocked him out.

Corrin fell into a deep sleep where he had dreams of his childhood. Dreams that told a tale of what he always thought was correct: honor his Father, honor the memory of his mother, become the leader of the universe, and rule as the God his Father wanted him to be.

But his false reality during his dreams was shattered as the visions of death engulfed his mind again. The vision this time seemed darker and more vivid, making him wake up yelling.

His body was drenched in sweat as he looked around and noticed he was in his own bed. The sun of Arcadia was already beginning to set.

He felt an eerie calmness in his room and realized he didn't hear his children or the chattering of wards in the halls. He cautiously hopped out of bed, wrapped himself in one of his robes, and exited his room, seeing the halls empty.

He remembered his Father calling him a traitor and feared that The All Father had already retaliated by coming for his wife and children.

Corrin ran through the halls fast, still weak but determined. He checked Kale’s room and saw that it was empty. Fear began biting at him. He bolted to Lynn’s room, hoping to find her there with her brother. But her room was empty as well.

“Lynn! Kale! Evrii!” Corrin yelled.

He frantically yelled their names, fearing the worst until Evrii came running around the corner. Corrin looked at her in relief. She ran to him and they embraced each other.

“I thought, I thought…” Corrin started.

He couldn’t bring himself to say what he thought had happened to them.

“Where are the children? Where is everyone?” Corrin asked, concerned.
